GOLD COAST QUEENSLAND
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Treatment Aftercare
Taking care of your body after treatment helps to enhance detoxification, prolong results, and support your lymphatic flow. With a little mindful attention, you can help your body stay in its natural rhythm of cleansing and renewal.
Hydration: 24 - 48 hours post treatment
Supports Detoxification
Drink plenty of water! Aiming for 2-3 litres per day
Why it matters: Hydration is the cornerstone of lymphatic aftercare. Water helps your lymphatic system flush out toxins,
metabolic waste, and reduce swelling
Avoiding Dehydrating Substances like Caffeine and Alcohol
Why it matters: caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate your system, hindering lymph flow and slowing down the detoxification process.
Sip warm or room-temperature water (Avoid Icy)
Why it matters: warm water supports circulation, digestion, and helps your lymphatic system flush out waste more effectively. Avoid icy water, which can constrict vessels, slow digestion, and hinder the detox process we’ve just activated.
Teas to sip on: Peppermint (supports digestion), Dandelion Root (supports detox), Lemon and Ginger (supports immunity)
Nutrition: 24-48 hours post treatment
Best Choices
Cooked, Light Meals – Steamed or lightly sautéed veggies are easier to digest than raw, allowing your energy to go into detox and repair.
Warming Spices – Ginger, cumin, turmeric, and fennel can aid digestion and support circulation.
Broths & Soups – Hydrating, mineral-rich, and gentle on the stomach.
Whole Grains & Legumes – Quinoa, rice, or mung dal in moderation to keep energy steady and digestion moving. Mindful Eating – Smaller, slower meals help prevent bloating and keep digestion smooth.
Why it matters: After a lymphatic drainage session, your body is actively moving waste and toxins. The foods you eat can either support this gentle detox or slow it down. We want foods that are easy to digest, warm, and nourishing to help support both the digestive and lymphatic system over the next 48 hours
What to Avoid
Raw & Cold Foods – Harder to digest and slows toxin elimination.
Heavy, Oily Meals – Burgers, fried food, or processed snacks create extra work for the liver.
Dairy & Sugar – Can encourage mucus and stagnation in the lymph.
Alcohol & Caffeine – Dehydrating and counterproductive to flushing out waste.
Why it matters: Raw, cold, or heavy foods can be harder for your body to process right after a lymphatic drainage session. They dampen digestion which slows down how efficiently waste and toxins are eliminated. Processed foods, excess sugar, and dairy can also create stagnation or mucus in the body, which may counteract the benefits of your treatment.
Avoiding alcohol and caffeine for 24–48 hours prevents dehydration and keeps your system focused on cleansing and recovery.
Movement 24-48 hours post treatment
Best Choices
Walking – Short, light walks (10–20 minutes) support circulation without straining the body.
Gentle Stretching / Yoga – Focus on opening the chest, twisting the spine, and lengthening the legs to keep lymph moving.
Deep Breathing Exercises – Diaphragmatic breathing creates a natural pump for lymph around the thoracic duct.
Why It Matters: Your lymphatic system doesn’t have its own pump, it relies on muscle contraction, breathing, and posture changes to keep fluid circulating. After treatment, gentle movement enhances the “flush” effect and prevents fluid from becoming stagnant again.
What to Avoid
Strenuous Exercise – Intense workouts, heavy lifting, or HIIT can over-stress the body right after
treatment.
Prolonged Inactivity – Avoid sitting or lying in one position for hours, as this slows lymphatic movement.
Why it matters: Right after treatment, your lymphatic system is already working harder to process and flush out waste. Strenuous exercise can over-stress your body, increase inflammation, and interfere with recovery. On the other hand, being completely sedentary for long stretches can cause fluid to stagnate again, reducing the effectiveness of your session. Keeping your movement gentle but consistent allows your body to focus on healing and detox without added strain.
